520 _aWe want Caliban to be left behind in what is, after all, his own place, but Shakespeare neither indulges nor denies our desires. If Prospero is at last a kind of benign logo, then Caliban's recalcitrances finally look like an idiosyncratic rebellion of actor against playwright, creature against demiurge.
