N2  - Pygmalion, a Greek sculptor, fell in love with the statue he had made, had life breathed into it by Venus and then married her. In Shaw's play Professor Higgins, a crusty old bachelor picks up a Cockney flower girl, teaches her fashionable language and manners and transforms her into a passable imitation of a duchess and wins a bet. Engrossed in his own experiments and intoxicated by his own success the Professor never cares to consider the feelings of the girl. The girl naturally rebels against such insensate treatment and demonstrates her wounded feelings by offensive behaviour. But before she 'sweeps out' she announces her intention to marry: Professor Henry Higgins or Freddy Eynsford-Hill, 'the young fool'? And why? Anyway, she has now become 'a tower of strength'
