Applied comparative literature

By: Subhash ChandraMaterial type: TextTextPublication details: New Delhi Jnanada Prakashan 2012Description: 290pISBN: 9788171394869Subject(s): Indian Literature | Applied Linguistics | LanguageDDC classification: 809 Summary: As a general rule, the area of study is affiliated either with the department of English, either with one or more foreign language departments, and the professors teaching courses in comparative literature are often 'borrowed' from the respective chairs. This book will focus on the theories of comparative literature where all appropriate tend to enclose the subject within narrow problematic bounds. The term 'language awareness' is not easy to pin down precisely. One major reason for this is that there is considerable uncertainty regarding how broadly the term language is to be conceived inside this collocation. Are for example such things as cultural awareness or gender awareness part of language awareness or not? In the evolution of literature and culture in the second half of the twentieth century, the shift from modernism to post-modernism seemed to mark a major new and irreversible sage. In sometimes moderate, sometimes also polemical opposition to its modernist predecessor, post-modernism presented itself as a more open-minded, democratic, culturally pluralistic alternative to the elitist, essentialist ,Western and male-oriented era of modernism.
