| Summary, etc | Amirbai Karnataki (1906 - 1965), born in Bilagi village, Karnataka was a famous actress and playback singer of the yesteryears. Mahatma Gandhi was an ardent fan of her song vaishnava jana to tene kahiye. During 1940s, Amirbai became one of the most sought after singers. This is perhaps the only full-length biography of Amirbai. The uniqueness of the book lies in the fact that it is woven in a non-linear, analytical mode. Her life is constructed thematically placing it in the cultural and political context of yesteryars. The work is backed by an extensive field work and vast reading.
